Institute of the Incarnate Word#Second Order: Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matar.C3.A1

The Servants of the Lord and the Virgin Mary of Matará ( Order code: SSVM ) are also known under the name Matará sisters. The community was March 19, 1988, the Solemnity of St.. Foundation

The Congregation was founded in 1988 by Father Carlos Miguel Buela in San Rafael in Argentina). The community is under canon law an institute of consecrated life and belongs to, also founded by Father Buela religious family of the Incarnate Word (IVE), in addition to a religious community for men (Institute of the Incarnate Word ) also a Third Order is attached. The Matará sisters are divided into two branches: one apostolate, and a contemplative, the Adoration Sisters of the Precious Blood and Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará.

In 2005, the Institute were 655 nuns at: 205 with solemn vows, 246 in temporary vows and 99 postulants. The number of members increased to 2010 to 1300 members of religious orders. The sisters are active on four continents in mission communities in over twenty countries.

The sisters wear a habit with a gray tunic and a blue scapular. The sisters, who have taken their vows, wear a blue veil, the novices a white. After solemn profession the nuns wear a ring and the so-called Cross of Matará, which is a replica of originating from the 1594 Cross and the oldest known Christian witness in Argentina.

Spirituality and mission

The nuns engage in prayer and work in the charitable and pastoral work. With their way of life they want to remember the women who accompanied Jesus Christ in his life and death, and finally stood under the cross ( 8:1-3 EU). So the sisters see it as their special mission to carry the gospel to the world and to help young people find their calling. They devote themselves especially to the preaching of the Word of God in all its forms.
