Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology

The Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese中国科学院 古 脊椎动物 与 古 人类 研究所, pinyin Zhongguo kexueyuan Gujizhui Dongwu yu gurenlei yanjiusuo, English Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences ( IVPP ) ) is a leading institute for the study of fossils of vertebrates and of early man in the People's Republic of China.

The Institute is based in Beijing is also collection site; both in its scientific collection, the connected Chinese palaeozoological Museum many finds of dinosaurs, pterosaurs and primitive birds are kept.

As already evident from the name of research, the Institute staff in the field of vertebrate paleontology and paleoanthropology. The Institute was established in 1929 went out of the "Research Laboratory of Cenozoic " out ( current name since 1960); within the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it acts as an independent research institution. His staff publish their research results in international journals. 45 members of the Institute were between 1999 and 2005 author or co-author of scientific publications in Nature and Science. Among the outstanding paleontologist at the Institute include Wu Xinzhi, Yang Zhongjian (CC Young), Dong Zhiming, Xu Xing, Zhou Zhonghe and Zhao Xijin.
