Însurăței

Însurăţei is a town in the district of Braila in Romania.

Location

Însurăţei lies on the northern edge of the Bărăgan - steppe, in the northeast of the Wallachian Plain. The northward flowing here Danube is located 20 km east, the county capital of Brăila about 50 km northeast.

History

Însurăţei is a relatively new settlement, which was created according to several sources 1760-1802. The establishment and expansion took place as planned with streets laid out at right angles. 1989 Însurăţei was declared a city. The main industries are agriculture and trade.

Population

1930 about 5,000 inhabitants were registered on the territory of the present-day city. As of the 2002 census lived in Însurăţei 7,336 people, including 7,169 Romanians and 165 Roma. Approximately 6,700 lived in the city proper, the others in the three incorporated villages.

Traffic

Însurăţei has no rail connection. Through the city along the national road runs 21 Brăila after Calarasi. There are regular bus services to Brăila.
