Interdisciplinary Centre For Advanced Materials Simulation

The Interdisciplinary Centre For Advanced Materials Simulation ( ICAMS ) is a research institute founded at the Ruhr- University of Bochum, 2008. The interdisciplinary institute is to develop scale- bridging method for the computer simulation of advanced materials and their transfer into industrial research. For this purpose, aim for the materials research relevant methods on all length scales, will be joined by the atomistic structure to macroscopic properties.

ICAMS is by an industrial consortium under the leadership of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG, Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung GmbH, Robert Bosch GmbH, Bayer MaterialScience AG, Bayer Technology Services GmbH, Benteler Stahl / Rohr GmbH, and the state of North Rhine -Westphalia and the European Union funded.

Structure

The center consists of three endowed chairs:

  • Atomistic Modelling and Simulation
  • Multi-scale thermodynamic and kinetic simulation
  • Micromechanical and Macroscopic Modelling

In addition to three external devices is moved " Advanced Study Groups " in ICAMS are involved.

  • Modelling ( Max Planck Institute for Iron Research )
  • Input Data and Validation ( LWW, Ruhr- University Bochum)
  • Processing and Characterization ( IEHK, RWTH Aachen )

The end of 2011 a total of 80 employees were working at the Institute.
