International Association of Astronomical Artists

The International Association of Astronomical Artists ( often short: IAAA, International Association of Astronomical Artists ) is a non -profit organization, whose members projects on Astronomical Art ( Astronomical type ) to organize and go, promotes the formation of astronomical art and international links of artists, whose works are based on the study of the universe, is manufactured. Major component of the activities is the organization of workshops.

The IAAA was founded in 1982 and registered in 1986 as a society for astronomical arts. Since then, it has grown to over 120 members from more than 20 countries. The organization serves its members as a network and source of supply. During the first artists of this kind were realists still ( Lucian Rudaux and Chesley Bonestell in the 1930s and 40s ), many of today's artists of styles such as Impressionism, Expressionism and Surrealism influenced, the majority, however, is in contrast to science fiction illustrators trained in astronomy, physics or mathematics and is based in their works not only on their imagination.

The works can be characterized as relating to past or future celestial phenomena of the present as well and do they represent from a perspective that could usually not be a telescope and no modern technology. Thus an attempt is made to create a imposing but credible works of art, which are produced in acrylic or oil paints, crayons or ink or with digital technology.
