International Association of Insurance Supervisors

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS ), the International Association of Insurance Supervisors IAIS This has been made Founded in 1994 under Swiss law. It has its headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.

Organization

Overall, it consists of approximately 190 supervisors, the so-called members, who come from over 140 countries. Furthermore, belong to 120 organizations of the Association who are not active members, but only have observer status as an observer. Observer may be insurance companies, broker or accountant.

From the German side, the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority ( BaFin) are represented as Members in the IAIS.

The highest authority of the IAIS Executive Committee. This is responsible for the management and leadership of the IAIS. As staff functions, the Supervisory Forum ( supervisory and monitoring forum) and the Audit Committee are affiliated (Audit Committee).

Under the Executive Committee are four committees that deal at committee level with the substantive work of the IAIS: the Financial Stability Committee, the Technical Committee, the Implementation Committee and the Budget Committee.

Tasks

The tasks of the IAIS include:

  • The implementation of training for members, primarily on the topics of investment test, solvency and application of stress tests.
  • The promotion of cooperation and exchange of information between national supervisory authorities.
  • The development and adoption of principles and standards relevant to the national supervisory authorities.
