International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBO -DP, International School, International baccalaureate [ a] ) is an internationally recognized level of education which is awarded by the Geneva-based International Baccalaureate Organization ( International Baccalaureate Organization 's Diploma Programme ).

Educational program

The three programs of the International Baccalaureate are:

  • IB Primary Years Programme (PYP ) for students aged three to twelve years ( Pre-school education and basic level, ISCED 0 1)
  • IB Middle Years Programme ( MYP ) for students aged eleven to 16 years (mean level, ISCED 2)
  • IB Diploma Programme ( DP) for students aged 16 to 19 (upper level, ISCED 3a)

The two-year curriculum of the IB DP requires that students choose six subjects from at least five different subject areas. In addition, each IB Diploma students must complete a work ( Extended Essay ) and the Theory of Knowledge course, which is to stimulate critical and international thinking. The IB Diploma ( university entrance )

Since 1968, the IB Diploma program is offered. Originally designed for its international character for children of diplomats, the IB is now offered in English, Spanish or French world.

A student of the IB must one subject from each of the six subject groups demonstrate at least three of them in the Higher Level (HL), the others as the default level. Higher Level and Standard Level are comparable to the German power and basic courses. In Germany applies for recognition as admissions of the Resolution of the Standing Conference of 10 March 1986 as amended on 31 May 2012. The British elite universities of Oxford and Cambridge, for example, require as a prerequisite recording a minimum score 38-40 points in the IB.
