International Co-operative Alliance

THe International Co-operative Alliance ( ICA ) is an independent, non-governmental organization that co-operatives worldwide (international: cooperatives ) unites, represents and serves. It was founded in 1895. Today 222 member organizations from 88 countries are organized into the ICA, which are active in all sectors of the economy. These cooperatives represent the interests of more than 800 million individuals worldwide.

History

The time of founding, especially the example of the Rochdale Pioneers embossed organization should serve to promote and ensure co-operative values ​​and principles and has been these three times: 1937, 1966 and 1995 spelled out in official documents. Traditionally dominated by European, first the British and French. later the Scandinavian consumer cooperatives, the ICA has set priorities in Asia proliferated in recent years. Although the proposals formulated by the ICA principles were not in full agreement with those of the cooperatives of the Soviet type, the period brought after 1947 ( Cold War ) no cleavage of the international umbrella organization. The history of the ICA is closely intertwined with that of the international labor movement.
