International Life Saving Federation

The International Life Saving Federation (ILS ) is an international, humanitarian and politically neutral jacket Association of Water rescue organizations. Members are, inter alia, the German Life Saving Society ( DLRG ) (as "full member" ), the lifeguard of the DRC ( as " associate member " ), the Austrian Water Rescue ( ÖWR ), the Swiss Lifesaving Society, the Surf Life Saving Australia ( SLSA ), the Federacion Espanola de Salvamento y Socorrismo ( FFSS ), the Royal Life Saving Society UK ( RLSSUK ) and the United States Lifesaving Association ( USLA ). The seat of the ILS is in Leuven / Belgium.

Tasks and objectives

The ILS will strengthen coordination and support of national water rescue organizations to facilitate and promote the exchange of information, through cooperation with other appropriate organizations linked to the security and in the aquatic environment.

Furthermore, it sets itself the goal of

  • To find the best methods and means for water rescue,
  • To provide for an exchange of techniques and measures
  • Practical to replace medical and scientific experience,
  • To promote the maintenance of international training centers,
  • To encourage the maintenance of training facilities available to the entire world of water rescue available
  • The teachings and activities of ILS extended to all places in the world,
  • Promote uniformity of equipment, information, symbols, and laws for the control and regulation of activities in and around water
  • To promote the sport and rescue to organize and organize international competitions in the rescue swim regularly
  • Meetings to promote international congresses to create bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between members and other international organizations, which pursue the same humanitarian objectives,
  • Promote measures to prevent the pollution of waters and beaches and other items that mean the dangers for the public and for activities in and around water
  • Take any other action which considers the ILS is conducive to its mission and goals.

History

The ILS goes back to two associations, the Federation Internationale de Sauvetage Aquatique (FIS ) and World Life Saving ( WLS).

FIS

The FIS was founded in 1910 in France as the " Fédération Internationale de Sauvetage ". My seat was Paris. In the early years a veritable boom took place, but this was interrupted by the first World War. After two world wars, the congresses were finally continued. 1952 at a meeting in Paris of the name was " Fédération Internationale de Sauvetage et de secourisme et de Sports Utilitaires " changed. In 1963 there was another name change: " Fédération Internationale de Sauvetage et de Sports Utilitaires ". Finally, in 1985 the statutes were changed and the FIS was now called the " Fédération Internationale de Sauvetage Aquatique ".

WLS

World Life Saving ( WLS) was founded in 1971 in Cronulla / Australia.

Merger

In February 1993, the two organizations merged to ILS. However, the official year is the year 1910. The contract applies to the ILS since 1994.

Events

The ILS organizes competitions, congresses and meetings. To the first point includes the World Cup, the Regional Youth Championships and the International " Search and Rescue " contest. In addition, the ILS also hosts the International Lifesaving Congress, several regional conventions and special training sessions.
