International recognition of Kosovo

Since the declaration of independence of Kosovo on 17 February 2008, 107 of a total of 193 member states of the United Nations, the Republic recognized Kosovo as an independent state diplomatically. Not all of these states have actually already recorded diplomatic relations, and few have sent Ambassador.

At the international recognition of Kosovo roughly three groups can be distinguished:

  • The recognizing states who consider by a diplomatic note from the country as independent,
  • Explicitly under international law not recognizing states whose governments explicitly refuse recognition for various reasons, and
  • Those States which have not taken a position.

States with special position

The Republic of Kosovo has unilaterally recognized on 18 February 2008 by Taiwan. A few international organizations and associations, including the International Monetary Fund have taken to Kosovo as a member.

Rejection of the Republic of Kosovo

Besides Serbia, are Russia and the People's Republic of China who oppose recognition of independence.
