International Standard Text Code

The International Standard Text Code ( ISTC) is a coding system similar to the ISBN, which was developed by the ISO. Since March 2009, it is published as ISO 21047:2009.

Purpose

To be marked primarily published texts such as books. While the ISBN each edition of this text by a publisher receives its own ISBN ( Schiller's robber so with dozens of ISBN were registered), will receive a text ( in translation ) in addition exactly one ISTC. This then also applies to different media, ie about in print, as an audio book, e-book or digitized.

About the ISTC can be found in a variety of media works and expenditure; for a translation can be made to the ISTC of the original and for collective works ( thus, among other titles ) the ISTC texts included can be specified.

Format

A ISTC consists of 16 ( Arabic) numerals 0-9 with the letters A -F, that is a hexadecimal number.

The coding is divided into four parts:

Examples:

  • ISTC 0A9 2002 12B4A105 7
