International World Games Association

The International Association for World Games ( International World Games Association, IWGA ) is an international sports federation in which participating in the World Games sports are merged. Its aim is to promote the popularity of the sports represented by him.

World Games

The World Games are an international competition for athletes whose sports and disciplines not included in the Olympic competition program, but still have a high global distribution. They always take place one year after the Summer Olympic Games under the auspices of the ( International Olympic Committee ( IOC) ).

History

In 1981 the World Games Council established by various international sports federations whose sports waiting to be included on the Olympic competition program. The purpose of the event is to provide sports that are not represented at the Summer Olympics a platform. 1981 took place the first official games in Santa Clara ( USA). Three years before the so-called Pre World Games in Seoul (Korea ) in 1978 discharged.

In 1996 was renamed the World Games in Council International World Games Association ( IWGA ).

Organization

The International Association for World Games is constituted as an international NGO under Swiss law. The IWGA is a member of the General Association of International Sports Federations. Currently it includes 32 sports federations to (33 with the inclusion in 2012 of Futsal AMF by pr).

The main decision-making body is the General Assembly, which meets every four years, by the World Games. They determined on the seven-member board and makes important decisions such as the choice of the venue of the World Games and the selection of the World Games sports.

President IWGA is currently (2006) Ron Froehlich.
