Interstate Railroad

The Interstate Railroad (AAR reporting mark: INT) was an American railroad company, at a length of 142 km in the western part of the state of Virginia. The company was one of the Virginia Coal & Iron Co.. , The routes of the Interstate Railroad led by Miller Yard in the northeastern Scott County (connection to the Clinchfield Railroad ) west towards Appalachia and to Andover, where also the main freight yard and the seat of society were. In addition there was some side routes which extended north into the Black Mountains. The railway carried on mainly the recovered coal from the mountains.

The company was founded in 1896. In 1909, the first section between Stonega and Norton was completed. 1913 took over to the Wise Terminal Co. and ten years later the connection with the Clinchfield Railroad was established. What was originally intended as a side line, soon became the primary line. 1961 acquired the Southern Railway society. In October 1985, the company was then merged with the Norfolk Southern.
