Întorsura Buzăului

Intorsura Buzăului ( Bodsau German, Hungarian Bodzaforduló ) is a town in Covasna county in Romania.

Geographical location

Intorsura Buzăului lies in a hollow in the middle of the southern part of the Eastern Carpathians in the upper reaches of the river Buzău. The name means " bending of the Buzău " because the river changes its direction here from northeast to southeast. The city is located between the mountains Intorsura the west and north, Penteleu in the east, in the southeast and Siriu CIUCAS in the southwest. The district capital Sfântu Gheorghe ( Saint George ) is located about 30 km northwest of Intorsura Buzăului away.

History

The oldest archaeological finds from the Neolithic period. The basin of Intorsura Buzăului was settled late. The meadows and forests were on the very edge of Transylvania and among some Szeklerdörfern and the Transylvanian Saxon villages Tartlau and Kronstadt. Through the valley led an important trade route from Wallachia to Transylvania. In October 1599 the Wallachian prince here encamped Michael the Brave on his way to Transylvania. In 1750, founded the first permanent settlers Romanian dwellings. Most probably came from around Zărneşti. 1805 registered a Romanian Orthodox church. In 1931 the railway line was put into operation to Brasov, which included the longest tunnel in Romania ( 4369 m). 1968 Intorsura Buzăului received the status of a city.

The city lives mainly from agriculture, animal husbandry, wood processing and tourism.

Population

1850 were registered on the territory of today's 1,157 inhabitants. 1,147 were Romanians. By 1920, population growth was recorded ( 5333 ), then to 1930, a significant decline ( 3444 ), before the population increased steadily again. As of the 2002 census lived in Intorsura Buzăului 8,926 people, including 6,637 in the city proper, and 2,289 in the local villages. 6,567 identified themselves as Romanians, 54 and 15 as Hungary as Roma.

Traffic

From Intorsura Buzăului currently operate (2009) daily about seven local trains to Brasov. The route is served by private providers RegioTrans. The city is located on the National Road 10 of Braşov after Buzău.
