The vernacular is as in neighboring Baile na hAbhann the Connacht dialect of Irish. Therefore has official status only, the Irish name Indreabhán.

In Indreabhán the Connemara Airport is located with flight connections to the three Aran Islands.

In Na mine is the Summer College Coláiste Uí Chadhain and in Tullow is one of three campuses of the summer Colleges Coláiste Chamuis. Here spend many students from all over Ireland their summer holidays to improve their Irish language skills while they are housed in native language families.

The name is probably a Indreabhán metathetic form of inbhearán, a derivative of ir Inbhear (Eng. estuary ) and means something like " place with estuaries ". The phonetic form Indreabhán has been additionally well ( " between two estuaries " ) no longer influenced by the common name idir dá Inbhir.

The nationally known presenters Sinéad Ní Neachtain, Aoife Ní Thuairisg and Pádraic Ó Neachtain the Irish language television station TG4 come from Indreabhán.
