Invision Power Board

The Invision Power Board or new IP.Board ( IPB or short ) is one of the best known systems for web forums. It is developed and marketed by Invision Power Service. It is based on the programming language PHP and uses MySQL as the database either, MSSQL or Oracle. In order to be able to use this software, the purchase of a license is necessary. Any interested person may apply via a form on the website and a demo of the IP.Board IP.Board components.

History

Invision Power Services ( IPS) was founded in 2002 by Matt Mecham and Charles Warner after both the Jarvis Entertainment Group ( who developed the Ikonboard ) had left. Their first product was the Invision Power Board (IPB ), which quickly amassed a community of former Ikonboard users.

Version 1.x

The first versions of Invision Power Board were offered under a proprietary license for free download. The last version which was released under these conditions was Invision Power Board 1.3.

Version 2.x

The version 2.0.0 has been released under the same licensing terms as the version 1.3.1. Although the developers originally alleged that the Forum would remain free, ended in 2004, the release of free versions for non-commercial purposes: A downloadable trial version of Invision Power Board 2.0.0 Release Candidate ( RC) versions 1 and 2 were published before the finished version was released for public use. It was then replaced by a free demo with restrictions on 5000 posts, 1000 threads, 200 members, and other restrictions that therefore the statements of the developer completed that the IPB will always be free. Many users were upset because of that and made Mecham allegations of copyright infringement. On 1 July 2005, the useful life of the demonstration of 15 days was reduced to 5, and a few months later she was again reduced to 24 hours. Currently, the useful life is 5 days, which may be extended if necessary, however.

Version 3.x

Invision Power Board version 3.0.0 was released on June 25, 2009.
