Ioannis Kyrastas

Ioannis Kirastas (Greek Ιωάννης Κυράστας, born October 25, 1952 in Piraeus, Greece, † 1 April 2004 in Athens ) was a Greek football player and coach.

Playing career

Ioannis Kirastas began his professional career at Olympiacos, where he made his debut in a match against Kavala in the Greek League on 10 December 1972. With Olympiakos Kirastas completed 233 first division matches and won five championships next ( 1973, 1974, 1975, 1980, 1981) and three Greek Cups (1973, 1975, 1981). In 1981, he joined together with Maik Galakos to arch-rivals Panathinaikos Athens. In the next few years he came at Panathinaikos on 145 missions and was two additional championships (1984, 1986) and three Cups (1982, 1984, 1986) to win. His playing career ended Kirastas 1986.

Ioannis Kirastas was for years an integral part of the Greek national football team, and there came the period 15 November 1974 to 19 May 1985 to 46 inserts. Height of his national team career was the participation in the European Football Championship 1980.

Coaching career

After his time as a player Kirastas completed a coaching course and coached 1987-2001, among other things, the teams of Ethnikos Piraeus, Paniliakos, Panionios, Iraklis Thessaloniki and finally Panathinaikos where he had his last stop as a coach.

Death

After a sepsis Kirastas was taken on March 5, 2004 in a hospital. After initially hired an improvement in his health, Kirastas but died on 1 April 2004 at the age of 52 years.
