Iohexol is a mixture of several isomeric chemical compounds, which are among the haloaromatics and polyols. It is very soluble in water and is used in medicine under the trade name Omnipaque ® as iodine-containing contrast agents. Intravenously administered iohexol is used for visualization of blood vessels in the X-ray examination ( angiography ). Since the drug is completely excreted by the kidney, it is also suitable for excretory urography and determination of renal clearance.
