IOK-1

IOK -1 is one of the most distant galaxies known at the time. It was discovered in April 2006 by Masanori Iye of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan with the Subaru telescope in Hawaii in the constellation Coma Berenices. Studies of the Lyman - alpha line showed a redshift of 6.96, which (ie just 750 million years after the Big Bang ) corresponds to an age of 12.95 billion years ago. In September 2010, the even more distant galaxy UDFy 38,135,539 - was discovered in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. Previously it was IOK -1 as the most distant known galaxy.
