Iopanoic acid is a chemical compound which is one of the aromatic halogen compounds, and is used in medicine as a iodinated contrast medium.
Production and representation
A mixture of m -nitrobenzaldehyde, n- butyric anhydride, and sodium butyrate is reacted by heating in xylene to m -nitro- α -ethyl- cinnamic acid, which is converted by reduction with hydrogen and iodination with iodine monochloride to Iopanoic acid.
