Iosco County, Michigan

Iosco County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tawas City.

Geography

The County is located in the northeast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the east by Lake Huron, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​4897 square kilometers, of which 3475 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Arenac County, Ogemaw County and Alcona County.

History

Iosco County was formed in 1840 as an original county of free territory. Until 1843, his name was Kanotin County. It was named by Henry Schoolcraft for a word from the Indian language.
