Ipatovo, Stavropol Krai

Ipatowo (Russian Ипатово ) is a city in Stavropol (Russia) region with 26 053 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the northern Caucasus foothills about 120 km north-east of the regional capital Stavropol on Kalaus, a left tributary of the Manytsch.

Ipatowo is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The city lies on the opened on this section 1930 railway Kropotkin ( station Kawkasskaja ) Swetlograd - Elista.

History

The town was founded in 1860 by evacuees from the provinces of Voronezh, Poltava and Kharkiv as a village Tschemrek, presumably named after a former Nogaierfürsten. Later, also moved from the Ottoman Empire returned nogaiische families.
