The Poplar Blatteule ( Ipimorpha subtusa ), also called poplar bush Blatteule, is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of cutworms ( Noctuidae ).

Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the butterfly is 29 to 34 millimeters. The ground color of the fore wings varied to reddish brown with gray-brown. Outer and inner transverse line running slightly curved, not parallel and created light. The wavy line is sometimes blurred. Tang, kidney and ring stain are large, slightly darkened and edged thin white yellow. The hem is relatively straight. The hind wings are gray-brown without markings at the root brightened somewhat. The proboscis of the moths is well developed. The antennae of the males are ciliated short, those of the females thready. The thorax is provided with a clear comb-shaped tufts of hair.

Egg

The spherical, egg yellow is flattened on the base. It is covered with strong, slightly jagged ridges of which reach about half of the very small, sunken Mikropylzone.

Caterpillar

Younger caterpillars have a bright greenish color and marked with whitish back - and side- back lines and white yellow side stripes and black dot warts. The head has a black color. In the adult animals the head is greenish to brownish. The other drawing elements essentially correspond to those of the young caterpillars.

Doll

The pupa is reddish-brown and shows the cremaster two almost straight, diverging spines.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The Poplar Blatteule is used in almost all of Europe. Eastwards reaches the circulation area to the Pacific Ocean. In the Alps, it rises to heights of 1600 meters. The animals are found in moist areas, forest clearings and riparian zones, but also in dry areas with aspen growth (Populus tremula ).
