Ipsa childreni is the only species of the genus Ipsa from the family of cowries.

Description

The case is large between 16 mm and 24 mm - the largest specimen found is 32 mm. The color of the body ranges from pale yellow to dark brown. The mantle in the living animal encloses the entire body and is white transparent. The papillae are dendritic.

Habitat and occurrence

Ipsa childreni is an occasionally occurring Art The distribution area extends across the central and eastern part of the Indian Ocean to the southwest Pacific. Ipsa childreni lives in 5 m to 50 m depth in the sea, always near coral reefs where they find food and protection from predators.

Taxonomy

The species was described in 1825 by John Edward Gray first. Thereafter, the same species was described three more times and occupied by these names: lemurica (1938 ), samurai (1940 ) and novaecaledoniae (1952 ), which are now regarded as synonyms. All three descriptions were provided by the same research couple, by Franz Alfred signs and Maria signs.
