Ira W. Drew

Ira Walton Drew ( born August 31, 1878 in Hardwick, Vermont, † February 12, 1972 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1937 and 1939 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ira Drew attended the common schools and the Hardwick Academy. He then completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. Between 1899 and 1906 he worked as a newspaper reporter in Burlington. Then he held the same job until 1908 in Boston. Then he studied until 1911 at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy the subject of alternative medicine ( osteopathy). Since 1911, he practiced in this specialty in Philadelphia. Between 1912 and 1933 he was a faculty member of the local College of Osteopathy. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1936, Drew was in the seventh election district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Republican George P. Darrow on January 3, 1937. Since he has not been confirmed in 1938, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1939. During this time other New Deal legislation of the Roosevelt administration there have been adopted.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Ira Drew practiced again as an osteopath. He died at an old age on February 12, 1972 in Philadelphia.
