Irakli Alasania

Irakli Alasania (Georgian ირაკლი ალასანია; born December 21, 1973 in Batumi, Georgian SSR) is a Georgian politician and diplomat. From September 2006 to December 2008, he was Ambassador of Georgia to the United Nations in New York. In 2009 he was chairman of the party Our Georgia - Free Democrats, the 2012 the Alliance Georgian Dream joined. The future Georgian Prime Minister Bidsina Ivanishvili nominated him in 2012 as Vice - Premier and Minister of Defense.

Life

Youth

He was born the son of General Mamia Alasania, who was murdered in the massacre of Sukhumi in 1993. In 1995 he graduated with a degree in International Law at the State University of Tbilisi.

Ministry officials

1994 to 1998 he worked in the Georgian Ministry of State Security, visited from 1994 to 1996 the Georgian Security Academy. In 1998, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There he first worked in the Department of CIS and Russian affairs. Later he went to the Georgian Embassy in the United States. Special Representative

On September 28, 2004, President Mikheil Saakashvili appointed him as Chairman of the Abkhaz government in exile based in Tbilisi. Opposition politicians

He returned to Georgia and founded on February 23, 2009 with the Georgian opposition parties Republican Party and New Conservative Party, the opposition alliance Nowas New Alliance. The Alliance chose him as chairman and set it up as presidential candidates.

On 16 July 2009, he founded the party Our Georgia - Free Democrats. 2012, the party joined the coalition Georgian Dream.
