Iranian legislative election, 1996

The Iranian Parliament elections of 1996 took place on 8 March 1996. [Note 1]

Result

The high turnout, as well as the high number of applicants can be explained by the disproportionate increase in the young electorate. Two political groups emerged as the winner. As expected, the association of the fighting clergy (110 seats) and the Islamic Society of Engineers (80 seats), whose most famous member, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad became president in 2005. As Speaker of Parliament Ali Akbar Nateq Nuri has been chosen.
