IRB Pacific Nations Cup

The Pacific Nations Cup is an international rugby union tournament, formerly known as the IRB Pacific 5 Nations. He was summoned by the International Rugby Board (IRB ) to life in order to promote the sport of Rugby Union in the Pacific. Currently taking part in five teams: Fiji, Japan, Canada, Tonga and the United States.

History

Participants in the competition, which replaced the tournament Pacific Tri-Nations, the Junior All Blacks and Australia were initially alongside Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Japan were invited A. The first edition of the tournament in 2006, Australia was the but rejected before the Australian Rugby Union announced on 18 October 2006 that the country from 2007 participates with Australia A, the reserve team of the " Wallabies ", but in the tournament. Thus in 2007 and 2008 six teams were represented in the competition. For this reason, the renaming of the tournament of the IRB Pacific 5 Nations took place in Pacific Nations Cup.

2008, the New Zealand Māori replaced the Junior All Blacks. This decision was made a year later, however, revised again, so that the Junior All Blacks took part in the 2009 edition. The team Australia A was dissolved in 2009 due to financial reasons. In the same year, the Junior All Blacks gave their retreat known, so that only four teams play for the title at the Pacific Nations Cup until 2012.

In January 2013, the IRB announced that Canada and the U.S. will in the future permanently belong to the participants and the need for the Churchill Cup will not be continued.

Format

The tournament will be held -for- every format. A victory is rewarded with four points. For a draw you get two for a loss and no. Bonus points are assigned the teams when they create, regardless of whether they win or lose four or more tries in a match, or if a team with seven points or less loses difference.
