Ireen Wüst

Ireen Wüst ( born April 1, 1986 in Goirle ) is a Dutch speed skater.

Career

In winter 2005, she was after she had finished second in the previous year, for the first time all-round Junior World Champion. On 12 February 2006, during the XX. Olympic Winter Games in Turin, she won the gold medal over 3000 m, before her compatriot Renate Groenewold and the Canadian Cindy Klassen. At 19 she is the youngest Dutch Olympic gold medalist in the Winter Games ever. For this outstanding performance, she received the honorary title of Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw. At the end of the season 2006, she finished with four new personal best times in two days to fourth place in the all-around world championship in Calgary and so fifth place in the eternal world leaderboard. Your first national all-round title she won on December 24, 2006 at the Dutch Championships in Heerenveen, shortly after she was elected to the Dutch Sportswoman of the Year. In 2009, she won bronze at the 2009 all-around World Cup, at the World Single Distance Championships, she reached over 1500 m and two silver medals in the team.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver Wüst reached the gold medal at the 1500 meters distance. In the same year she was in the all-around world championship and third at the European Championships Second.

On February 13, 2011, they won in Calgary surprising her second title at the all-around championship. They beat out Christine Nesbitt and the favored Martina Sáblíková. Over 3000 and 5000 m it scoring two personal bests. In the World Single Distance Championships 2011 in Inzell Wüst won two each of gold and silver medals. It was that their most successful World Cup.

At the 2013 World Championships in Sochi Wüst was the most successful participant, she won three gold medals and two silver medals. For there the following year discharged Olympics she won the gold medal in the 3000 m and three silver medals (1000 m, 1500 m, 5000 m).

On 24 October 2009, she opened the 400 m long Ireen Wuest IJsbaan ( " Ireen Wüst Ice Rink " ) in Tilburg.

2013 Wüst was honored as the first Dutch speed skater with the Ice Oscar.
