Irene Galitzine

Irene Galitzine (Russian Ирина Галицина / Irina Galizina; * July 22, 1916 or 1918 in Tbilisi / Georgia, † 20 October 2006 in Rome) was an Italian fashion designer of Russian origin.

She was the only child of Prince Boris Galizin (1878-1958) and his first wife, Nina Petrovna Kovaldji ( 1888-1957 ). Her mother took her in the wake of the Russian October Revolution and the subsequent civil war to move to Rome, where they married in 1949, Silvio Medici de Menezes ( 1903-1989 ). The marriage remained childless.

Became internationally known fashion designer, especially in the 1960s. At that time she dressed, among others, Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy and Liz Taylor. Her creations have been issued under the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
