Irène Joachim

Irène Joachim ( born March 13, 1913 in Paris, † 20 April 2001 Magna Ville) was a French soprano.

The granddaughter of the famous violinist Joseph Joachim and daughter of violinist Suzanne Chaigneau received as a child violin and piano lessons. From 1935 she attended the Paris Conservatory. In 1938, the composer Georges Auric made ​​aware of them, who predicted a great future for her at the Opéra -Comique. In fact, she was there engaged from 1939 to 1956 and appeared in works by Auric, Alban Berg, Francis Poulenc, Arthur Honegger, Eric Satie, Darius Milhaud, Luigi Dallapiccola and Pierre Boulez.

After 1945, she frequently appeared with Jane Bathori. In 1947 she sang in the world premiere of Charles Koechlin's opera Le livre de la jungle (after Rudyard Kipling ) and gave the French premiere of Alban Berg's Four Songs. From 1963 to 1983 she taught at the Conservatoire de Paris. In her last years she was suffering from Alzheimer's dementia.
