Ireneo García Alonso

Ireneo García Alonso ( born March 25, 1923 in Quintanilla Vivar, † June 4, 2012 in Toledo) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Albacete.

Life

Ireneo García Alonso studied theology and philosophy at the Seminary of Burgos (1934 /40) and Toledo (1941 /42). In 1948 he received his doctorate at the Pontifical University of Salamanca in theology. From 1948 to 1949 he was a deacon in Helechosa de los Montes in Badajoz. He received on 23 July 1950, the priesthood, and was until 1955 Professor of Humanities at the Seminary of Toledo. In 1957 he graduated in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and was from 1958 to 1968 canons of the Cathedral of Toledo in 1960 and Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Toledo.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on December 7, 1968 Bishop of Albacete. The Apostolic Nuncio in Spain, Luigi Dadaglio, donated to him on 25 January 1969, the episcopal ordination in the Cathedral of Albacete; Co-consecrators were Arturo Tabera Araoz CMF, Archbishop of Pamplona- Tudela, and Anastasio García Granados, Auxiliary Bishop of Toledo. In the Spanish Episcopal Conference CEE he was a member of the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy 1969 until 1981.

On August 4, 1980, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation on health grounds.
