The Rocky Mountain iris (Iris missouriensis ) is a plant of the genus Iris (Iris ) within the family of Iris Family ( Iridaceae ).

Features

The Rocky Mountain iris is a perennial, rhizomatous plant that reaches the plant height of 25 to 60 centimeters. The leaves are 3-7 (rarely to 10 ) mm wide, deciduous, colored pale green and longer or shorter than the stems. The 2 to 3 flowers have a diameter of 4 to 8 centimeters and are pale blue, purple to deep blue. The slopes strongly veined leaves are purple purple and measure 3.7 to 7 × 1.2 to 3.2 centimeters. Occurrence

The Rocky Mountain iris comes in northwestern America from southeastern British Columbia to California and northern Mexico to the south and southwest Alberta and Montana in the East. It grows in wet meadows and along the banks of summer dry streams at altitudes from 10 to 3000 meters.

Use

The Rocky Mountain iris is rarely used as an ornamental plant. It is in culture at least since 1880.
