Irish American

Irish Americans are citizens of the United States of Irish descent.

Many Protestant Irish immigrants during the Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries to America. They were followed during and after the Great Famine ( 1845-1849 ) millions of Catholic Irish.

The main settlement areas of the immigrants are the northern states of the Midwest, New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. A majority of the Irish settled in the cities of the United States and formed a large part of the working population. After the German Americans are the second largest ethnic group of the white population.

The state with the largest percentage share of Irish ( about 25%) is Massachusetts.

Among the most famous Catholic Irish- Americans, the Kennedy family belongs.
