The elections to Dáil Éireann in 1997 took place on 6 June 1997. Determined were the members of the 28th Dáil.

The 166 parliamentarians gathered for the first time on June 26, and the term of office lasted 1806 days.

The voters were in 1997 before deciding between two possible coalitions: the so-called rainbow coalition of Fine Gael, Labour and Democratic Left, which had been in power since the change of government in 1994 and the coalition of Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats.

After the counting of votes, there was no clear power relations. Ultimately, Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats and some independent merged to form a coalition government.
