The MS -21 (Russian МС -21 " Магистральный самолёт 21 века / " Magistralnij Samoljot 21 weka ", translated as aircraft of the 21st century ) is under development as a twin-engine short - and medium-haul passenger aircraft for 150-212 passengers of the Russian aerospace consortium United Aircraft Corporation (UAC). History
Initial planning for the subsequent MS- 21 were known as the Yak- 242 already in the 1990s. The MS -21 will replace the aging Tupolev Tu-204/214, Tu- 154 and Yak-42, but also compete against the Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737NG aircraft and their successor.
Development
The MS -21 will be built in three variants and consist of about 33 % of composite materials. Costs
The development costs are stated with about 1.3 billion U.S. dollars, plus about 300 to 500 million U.S. dollars for the engines. According to market studies want to settle until 2025 at least 300 aircraft in Russia and another 300 abroad. The unit price will be 35 million U.S. dollars. Latest reports speak of eight billion dollars total costs.
Orders
At the Farnborough International Airshow Irkut signed on 7 June 2010 a contract with Crecom Burj Resources of Malaysia for the supply of 50 MS -21 planes from the year 2016.
