Deer is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Saar castle and is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

The community is located east of the Saar to the Hunsrückhöhenstraße in the Saar -Hunsrück.

History

Archaeological finds indicate that the district of deer was inhabited during the Iron Age and the Roman period. The first mention was made in the year 975

On July 18, 1946 Deer has been assigned together with a further 80 municipalities in the counties of Trier and Saarburg Saarland, which no longer was under the Allied Control Council at the time. However, this association did not last long, for on 8 June 1947, deer and 60 other previously outsourced communities to the newly formed in 1946, the state of Rhineland -Palatinate.

Parish council

The local council in deer consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

At the request of the local council, chaired by the mayor Jackel from December 9, 1951 Deer became an emblem and a municipally owned flag awarded. On the back of the coat of arms amenities:

On return of the name deer on the Latin ' ibiscus " probably a mistake has been made. This assumed root word of " Hibiscus " = Marshmallow was probably confused with the Gallic tribes Treverian " Ivisco ", " Ivasco " = yew how yew also sound similar and marshmallow in German.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of St. Gervase and St. Protasius with tower chapel from the year 1052
  • The so-called murder cross on the Scharfenberg, remembering the alleged murder of a girl by three French soldiers in 1813
  • Speiner thumbs 1734 erbauter shrine with chapel from 1838 and connected refuge from the year 1928.

Events

Community life is very much alive in deer. The various carnival events are known about the spatial boundaries. On the 3rd weekend in August the place is celebrating its traditional four-day wine festival. On June 1, 2013 Deer hosted the first Pizzakartonfaltweltmeisterschaft.

Economy

Deer is influenced by his craft. Manufacturing companies do not exist. The once dominant viticulture has increasingly lost in the 90s on the Saar in importance, which has led to the closure of the company founded in 1897 Winzerverein deer - Ockfen in 2002. Many residents commute daily to Trier or neighboring Luxembourg.

Viniculture

Deer belongs to the " wine field Saar " in the Mosel region. In the resort seven wineries operate, the area under vines is 19 ha Approximately 90 % of the cultivated wine are white wine varietals ( 2007).
