Irwin Rose

Irwin Allan Rose ( * July 16, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American biochemist.

Rose was born in a secular Jewish family. He is the son of Ella ( Greenwald ), who came from the Hungarian- Jewish parents house, and Harry Royze, of Russian- Jewish origin. 1952 Rose received a doctorate from the University of Chicago. He is a specialist in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, College of Medicine of the University of California at Irvine.

He received in 2004 the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation, along with Aaron Ciechanover and Avram Hershko.
