Isa Alptekin

Isa Yusuf Alptekin (* 1901 in Yengisar, Kashgar, China, † December 17, 1995 in Istanbul, Turkey ) was a Uyghur politician who lived from 1949 in exile and from there until his death led the Uighur independence movement. In the years 1933 and 1934 he was Secretary General of the National Assembly of the short-lived and unstable " Islamic Republic of East Turkestan ". At the same time, he represented the Republic during its time of existence as a representative in Nanjing.

After he initially sought refuge in 1949 in the Indian part of Kashmir, he fled in 1954 in Turkey. There he eventually became the Turkish nationality. Alptekin died on December 17, 1995 in Istanbul at the age of 94 years. At the solemn funeral procession about a million people took part.
