Isaac B. Van Houten

Isaac B. Van Houten (* June 4, 1776 in Clarkstown (now New City ), New York; † August 16, 1850 ) was an American politician. Between 1833 and 1835, he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Isaac B. Van Houten was born about a year after the outbreak of the War of Independence in Clarkstown and grew up there. He attended community schools. He then worked in the mill and agriculture. Politically, he was a member of the Jacksonian Group. In the congressional elections of 1832 Van Houten was the second electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John T. Bergen on March 4, 1833. Since he resigned in 1834 to run again, he retired after the March 3, 1835 out of the Congress. Then he resumed his old work in the mill and agriculture. He died on August 16, 1850 in Clarkstown and was then buried in the family cemetery of his estate in Clarkstown.
