Isaak Mazel

Isaak Yakovlevich Masel (Russian Исаак Яковлевич Мазель * 1911 in Minsk, † March 31, 1945 in Tashkent) was a Soviet chess master.

Life

Masel reached the end of the 1920s, his first chess successes in Belarus. Then he moved to Moscow. During World War II he was stationed as a lieutenant in the Red Army in Tashkent and lived there with Olga Rubzowa.

Isaac Masel was a relative of the Czech chess composer Eduard Mazel ( born December 24, 1859 † December 27, 1943 ).

In 1931, he finished with 9 out of 17 in the 7th USSR championship course 8-9. In the same year he became a master of the sport. In 1934, he won a match against Hans Kmoch with 2 ½ to 1 ½. At the 9th USSR Championship 1934/35 in Leningrad, he finished with 8 ½ out of 19 Rank 15-16. 1941/42, he became a master of Moscow, having already 1933/34, 2nd - 3rd had become.
