Isabella of France, Queen of Navarre

Isabella of France (* March 2, 1242, † April 27, 1271 in Iles d'Hyeres to Marseille ) was by marriage Queen of Navarre and Countess of Champagne.

Life

Isabella was the daughter of the French king Louis IX. and his wife Margaret of Provence. The Eudes Rigaud of, Archbishop of Rouen, was celebrated the marriage of Isabella and Thibaud II, King of Navarre and Count of Champagne, was held in Melun on April 6, 1255. The groom was only 18 and the bride only 13 years old. The marriage remained childless. Louis IX. wanted to ensure an alignment of Navarre on French interests through this connection. Some of any written educational directives Louis IX. remained to this day for his daughter. Together with her husband and her father took the very pious Isabella part in the Seventh Crusade and embarked with them in July 1270 after a Tunis. There, however, died Louis IX. to an epidemic of Thibaud II on December 4, 1270 died on the return journey. Three months after landing in Provence and Isabella died at the age of only 29 years and was buried at her husband's side in the Couvent des Cordelières in Provins.
