Isabelle Dinoire

Isabelle Dinoire (born 1967, Valenciennes, France) is the first man to successfully face was transplanted. The mouth and nose her own face had been completely destroyed by a bite of her Labrador mongrel in May 2005. On November 27, 2005 French doctors performed the operation in which the patient, the lower part of the face of an already brain-dead woman was transplanted. The transplant involved the skin of the nose, mouth, chin, and parts of the cheeks.

On 6 February 2006 she turned the first time after the operation in the form of a press conference to the public. She said that that was very difficult for her five -month waiting period to surgery. She expressed the hope that her case would help make the future " to help others to live again " also. They also hope to return " a normal life " to be able to soon, though still subject many rehabilitation efforts in front of her. She thanked the doctors and the dead organ donor, which enables her by donating to live a "second life".

The end of November 2006, she was the transplanted face control so far that a smile was possible. Within this period, their immune systems had the transplant, however, almost repelled two times, but the doctors were able to stop this medication.

Critics say the face transplant in this case as premature as it could also have been due to self- skin grafts can try to achieve an acceptable result. The transplantation of foreign skin mountains large repulsion dangers and therefore go hand in hand with a strong lifelong medication for immunosuppression, the mountains more health risks, so the critics. The exporting doctors, however, keep the face transplant is still the right decision and for success.
