Isaiah Horowitz

Isaiah b. Abraham Horovitz (Isaiah ha -Levi Horovitz, also Horowitz; * 1565 in Prague, † March 24, 1630 in Tiberias ) Talmudist, Kabbalist and a time was long the chief rabbi in Prague.

He studied with Meir Lublin and Joshua Falk and married Chaya Moul, the daughter of Abraham Moul from Vienna. After many Rabbinates in major European cities he left Frankfurt to the fat milk uprising and participated in the Chief Rabbinate in Prague.

His most famous work is Schene Luchot ha - Mounted ( " The two federal panels " ), abbreviated Shelah ( this is also his name: Shelah ha - Kadosh, the holy Shelah ), a popular compendium of law and ethics.

Horovitz, also Hurwitz and the like, was / is a Jewish family from Hořovice in Bohemia. In the 13th century, the lords of the city selected for the first time this suffix.
