Life

Isfried was started initially from 1159 provost of the monastery Jerichow in present-day Saxony -Anhalt, whose construction around 1148 and was completed around 1172. After Evermods death and two years of Vacant See of the diocese because of the dispute over the right of investiture the confidant of Henry the Lion became bishop in 1180 in Ratzeburg. The recognition of the election was the last success of Henry before his ostracism. The farm extended Isfried continued the begun by Heinrich under Evermod construction of Ratzeburg Cathedral. Architecturally, the stylistic influences of architecture from Jerichow are visible in Ratzeburg today. As a confessor of Henry the Lion in 1195 he took this from the last confession and gave him absolution and last rites. He consolidated and expanded the diocese of Ratzeburg in the Sorbian language area.

In his honor was celebrated since 1725 June 15 as a day of remembrance. Today, his liturgical commemoration in the Archdiocese of Hamburg is celebrated on February 17 as a proper celebration together with the bishops of Ratzeburg Evermod and Ludolf.
