Ishikari Subprefecture

Ishikari (Jap.石 狩 振兴 局, Ishikari - Shinko - kyoku ) is a sub-prefecture of Hokkaido Prefecture. It has an area of ​​3539.84 km ² and a population of 2,310,001 (as of October 1, 2005 ).

History

The sub-prefecture was established in 1897 under the name of sub-prefecture Sapporo (札幌 支 庁, Sapporo shicho ). In 1922 it was renamed the sub-prefecture Ishikari (石 狩 支 庁, Ishikari - shicho ) with reference to the province of Ishikari. In 1975, the district Tarukawa (樽 川 地区, chiku ) incorporated to Otaru in the sub-prefecture Shiribeshi and thus reduced the sub-prefecture.
