Isidore the Laborer

Life

Isidore was a farmer and worked in his youth as a servant of the nobleman Iván de Vargas. He distinguished himself through obedience and hard work, without neglecting prayer and exercises of charity. His fellow servants were jealous of him, which is why they claimed their Lord over, he would pray constantly and therefore neglect his work. His master went after and took Isidore praying, while two white bulls, which were led by angels plowed. Together with his wife Maria de la Cabeza, he supported the needy.

Isidor was buried in a church in Madrid. When they opened his grave after 40 years, they found his body incorrupt. The canonization took place in 1622, together with the Holy Filippo Neri, Ignatius Loyola, Francis Xavier and Teresa of Ávila.

The Saints are supposed to have several miracles. Among other things, angels are said to have ordered him the field while he was asleep under a tree.

His grave is located in the St. Andrew's Church in Madrid. In addition to the patronage of Madrid, he is also the patron of farmers against drought for rain and a good harvest.
