Isiolo

Isiolo is a town of about 29000 inhabitants in the province of Eastern in Kenya. Isiolo is the capital of the district of the same name. The city is located just off the A2, south of the Samburu National Reserve.

Infrastructure

Besides different shops Isiolo has a livestock and a vegetable market, banks, several hotels and restaurants, a hospital, a gas station and a post office. From the bus station moves among other twice a day a bus to Nairobi.

There are several schools in Isiolo, two primary schools and a secondary school for girls run by the Roman Catholic Church.

Religion

Isiolo has both a mosque and a Catholic church. The church belongs to the Apostolic Vicariate of Isiolo and came in 2005 in the headlines, as the Vicar Apostolic of Isiolo, Luigi Locati, was shot in the street.
