Iske Tash Mosque

The Iske Tash Mosque (Russian Мечеть Иске - Таш, Tatar Иске Таш мәчет, Iske Tas mäçet ), and Mosque of the Old Stone, Starokamennaja Mosque ( Старокаменная мечеть ) or Ninth Cathedral ( Девятая соборная ), located in the Russian city Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.

History

According to an old legend, the mosque should be built in a place to which a common grave of Muslim fighters, who have defended in 1552 Kazan was. The grave was marked with a " big old stone " ( Tatar for Iske taş ).

The mosque was built in the years 1801/ 02 through donations of businessman Gabdulla 'm Gabdulsälam 'm Ütämisch al - Maskarawi († 1932) erected. The Qibla of the mosque was hosted by the Tatar theologians Gabdennasir Kursawi. The building was reconstructed by Alexander Schmidt Probably 1830-1840 and expanded.
