Islamic Center of Washington

The Islamic Center of Washington consists of a mosque and an Islamic Cultural Center in Washington DC, United States. Opened in 1957, center is located in the Embassy Row on Massachusetts Avenue just east of the bridge over the Potomac. At the time of opening was the mosque as the largest Islamic house of worship in the Western Hemisphere. Approximately 6,000 take part in the Friday prayer.

The mosque was attended by many dignitaries, including several presidents. For a lot of attention caused the visit of President George W. Bush on 17 September 2001, just days after the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001.

Next to the mosque, a library and classrooms are housed in the Centre, which are used for Islamic and Arabic courses Language courses.
